GETTING STARTED AT MOVE
We highly recommend that everyone, no matter how many years of Gyrotonic experience you have, join us for an introductory session. One of our trainers will take you through a great, customized workout on the Gyrotonic equipment. After your session, they’ll help you design a program based on your personal goals and challenges. You’ll get to know the studio, the equipment, and the MOVE community.
Private GYROTONIC® Sessions
Our trainers will use their expertise to create a customized Gyrotonic fitness program for you. In a private session, your MOVE trainer will:
- Take you through 50 minutes of customized Gyrotonic exercises to help you achieve your movement goals
- Ensure that you’re training correctly and safely to build strength, prevent injury, recover from existing health issues, or transition from a physical therapy program
- Provide expertise, support, motivation, and accountability
GYROTONIC® Group Classes
Classes are limited in size, allowing for the camaraderie of a group class setting with the benefits of a private session. Your trainer will teach Gyrotonic exercises at a level appropriate for your group. You will use a variety of specialized Gyrotonic equipment. Ask our desk team which classes are right for you.
ABOUT GYROTONIC® TRAINING
Gyrotonic exercises are stretching and strengthening movements coordinated with corresponding breathing patterns. Gyrotonic exercise also promotes neuromuscular rejuvenation, spine and joint decompression, enhanced spinal articulation, core strengthening, mindfulness and overall awareness. The exercises are performed on beautifully crafted weight and pulley-based machines, and involve a series of circular and fluid movements.
ABOUT GYROKINESIS® EXERCISE
Gyrokinesis exercise systematically and gently works the joints and muscles with fluid movements. Gyrokinesis is done both sitting on a stool and on a mat. Like Gyrotonic training, the Gyrokinesis method works on the entire body through getting the spine to move in all different planes of motion. In addition to building a connected and strong musculoskeletal system, these movements stimulate the body’s internal organs, fluids, and glands. Postures are not held for long periods of time, instead, they are smoothly connected through the use of breath, leaving your joints feeling mobile and decompressed. We’ve had clients say Gyrokinesis feels like a whole body massage!

What equipment is used at MOVE Wellness in a Gyrotonic session?
We have Pulley Towers, the Jumping Stretching Board and the Archway. Each of these beautifully crafted pieces facilitates decompression of the joints and stimulation of the whole body. Specific emphasis is placed upon balanced and healthy spinal motion.
The Pulley Tower guides the body through natural spiraling movement, while its pulley based design provides assistance in tractioning spine and joints.
The Jumping Stretching Board further assists in guiding the spine and joints into deeper mobilization, challenges balance, and builds strength and stability by utilizing sliding and rotating attachments on which to stand, kneel, or sit while performing a wide range of movements.
The Archway provides opportunities to train the body in various relationships to gravity and to perform hanging movements, which are especially important in creating decompression in the shoulders and spine. While there are Archway exercises that are appropriate for all fitness levels this piece of equipment is often used for highly athletic and challenging training.
What is the difference between Pilates and the Gyrotonic Expansion System?
At first glance, the Gyrotonic Expansion System bears some resemblance to Pilates. They both build strength and flexibility. They both have equipment and non-equipment based exercises. Just as Joseph Pilates’ inspiration came out of his own childhood illness, Romanian-born dancer Juliu Horvath devised the Gyrotonic Expansion System to help rehabilitate his back and Achilles tendon injuries. Both methods are a culmination of other exercise philosophies, as well as, innovations in movement and the healing arts.
While both the Gyrotonic Expansion System and Pilates build core strength and increase flexibility and coordination, there are some key differences. This includes the way that exercises are performed, the type of equipment used, and the focus in the body.
Do I wear shoes for my Gyrotonic session?
No. Gyrotonic exercise is done without shoes on. If you wish to wear socks, we recommend that you wear socks with grippers on the bottom. You can purchase them at our front desk.
I am injured and/or pregnant. Is Gyrotonic exercise safe for me?
Our trainers specialize in working with special populations, including those who are injured and/or pregnant to ensure optimal support. We’ll even coordinate with other therapists and physicians on your treatment team. Let us know what issues you are working with and we will help you schedule with a trainer that can support you on your fitness journey.
