Meet Apprentice Pilates Instructor Laura!
Our new group of Apprentice trainers are moving through their training and coming on board as MOVE Wellness Studios Apprentice Trainers. This week, we shine the spotlight on Apprentice Pilates Trainer Laura Tyson.
Laura has been a group exercise instructor for 22 years (teaching step classes, Zumba, aqua aerobics, barre, senior fitness classes and various cardio classes) and a Pilates instructor for the last 15 years (certified through the YMCA and participating in several one-day pilates workshops to earn continuing education credits.) She is also an ACSM certified personal trainer. She just completed the 2018 MOVE Wellness Studios Pilates Instructor training course and is ready to start private training as a MOVE Wellness Studios Apprentice.
“The instructors at MOVE Wellness Studios are so knowledgeable, I know the workout will be effective, safe and with purpose. Pilates above all has been the most thorough and functional workout for me- creating a better moving body so I can participate in all the other things I love! A human body is designed to move. People tend to feel they have to go to a gym or pick some magic workout to the “the one” that finally gets them in shape. What gets us in shape is being consistent with whatever the “workout” is. If we like what we’re doing, we’ll do it again, and therefore see results! Fitness to me is being physically able to participate in life, whether going to a gym, climbing the bleachers to watch my kid’s sporting events, or doing laundry without worrying about falling or hurting my back.
I love seeing people progress through levels of fitness, encouraging them and helping them to do things they never thought they could. It is energizing for me to be physically active, whether at a gym or just going for a walk or riding my bike or working in the garden. I feel better about myself and therefore I can be the person I want to be for my family.
Wellness means I am accepting of where I am right now in my life. Life happens: work gets busy, we move, someone in our family gets sick, we go on vacation, the kids have stuff!, etc….. and those things will constantly interfere with whatever your plans are. I think if you decide to wait until life has calmed down enough so you can focus on yourself- it’s never going to happen! There is no time like the present to take care of yourself physically in some way- however small or large.”
Is there anything else you’d like to share with the MOVE Wellness Studios community?
I have a background in Wildlife Biology. I spent the first 20 years after college working in the wildlife research field in various wildlife research projects (Muskrats in Missouri, Canada Geese, gulls and deer in Ohio, Wood Ducks in Illinois among others!). Just a fun trivia fact about me!
