We are so excited to open up space in our studio for clients to practice mindful meditation. Not only is mindfulness a key principle of the movement systems we teach at MOVE, but with an abundance of research supporting its benefits, we want to help you make mindfulness a habit with the support of a structured setting.

Mindfulness Moments will be offered 3x/week ongoing, with a mix of guided meditation and self meditation. Wednesdays at 11am will be guided by Sammy. Tuesday and Thursday, we will set up the group room with candles, blankets, and mats for self-guided or light stretching.  Each week will have a theme to help you focus your practice. Within the thirty-minute space, quietly drop in when you can and leave as you wish. These moments are YOURS.

There is evidence that for everyone, practicing mindful meditation can have a positive impact on health and well being. Research has been consistent in acknowledging meditation’s role in improving mood, lowering stress, improving emotional intelligence, and lowering blood pressure. Images of the brain show that meditators have increased activity in areas of the brain that exhibit compassion, empathy, joy, enthusiasm, and self control. Inversely, they have less activity in parts related to depression [1]. What’s more, experienced meditators appear to have more folds in the outer layers of their brain. These folds are integral part of learning and processing information [1]. Mindfulness Moments are part of MOVE’s commitment to give you the best, most well-rounded fitness and wellness program.

What exactly is mindfulness?

The practice of being present in the moment. It is being aware of the sensations of the body, thoughts, feelings, and surroundings with no judgement. Jon Kabat-Zinn’s definition of mindfulness: “Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way;. On purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.”

What can I get out of Mindfulness Moments?

Unlike practicing at home, these sessions offer the benefits of community and accountability – two elements that are important to keeping you motivated in reaching your goals. If your new year includes focusing and caring for yourself so that you can live a full and vibrant life, we encourage you to attend at least one of these sessions. In an increasingly busy outer world, let us help you achieve the deep inner rest that comes from mindfulness meditation.
